We consider a gemstone collectible whenever it is unusual or unique for its particular type. Especially important in this section are color, cut, and variation from the norm. For example: red sapphires or color change garnets, or how about green tanzanite. Unusual gemstones, like Smokey Quartz with rutile needles. Cuts like the escutcheon-shaped, antique, french, or briolette are more difficult to find and are all collectible as well as others with more unheard-of names like Kornerupine, Scapolite, Phenacite, or Sphene. Some collectible gemstones are expensive and / or rare, but that is not a prerequisite for being included in this section of the website. Enjoy a journey through this part of the site and see what we mean by unusual.
