Beryl as a gemstone refers to all varieties of the Beryl group which are not Emerald-Green or Aquamarine-Blue. Its hardness is 7 1/2 - 8 however they are brittle therefore care must be taken against knocks. Beryl is offered in a variety of colors many or which have special names in the trade.
Green Beryl is not commonly cut and offered to the trade until it is heated and improved to the point it is called Aquamarine. It is most commonly Emerald Cut. Very collectible and not easy to find.
